Nekemte is at the center of the road network for south - western Ethiopia. Nekemte town is located 330 km west of Addis Ababa on Addis -Assosa road. It lies between 9° 5'N and 36° 33'E, on an altitude of 2088 mails and enjoys an average annual rainfall of 1200 mmHg. The average daily minimum and maximum temperatures range between 15 and 27° C, respectively. Nekemte, as development corridor and agro industry development center in Western Ethiopia, links zones of Western Shoa,, Horro Gudrru Wollega, Kelem Wollega, Western Wollega, Illubabor, and Southern Benishangul Regional state, Gambella Regional state, and South Western Gojam parts of Amhara Regional state. The various academic programs and research centers at WU were established by taking into account the immense natural resources, cultural diversity and development opportunities in Western Ethiopia, to be used as natural library.
