About Research and Publication
Our country, Universities are currently expanding at fast rate to increase the number of skilled manpower that can contribute to the growth and transformation plan (GTP) through the advancement of science and technology. For any university, research is important parallel to the teaching and learning process since it leads to the generation of new knowledge and technology or to the improvement of the existing practices. They are inseparable and support each other. At Wollega University as well, parallel to the teaching and learning process research works coordinated by the Research Directorate are underway in the areas of agriculture, natural resources management, climate change, energy, food science and nutrition, animal feed, human and livestock health, HIV/AIDS, biotechnology, environment, biodiversity, mineral and water resources, GIS and ICT, education, and language at its Nekemte and Shambu campuses and Guduru Research Center.
The duties and responsibilities of Research Directorate of Wollega University<>
- Coordinate and monitor the research activities and production of relevant teaching materials
- Formulate research recommendations for policy reform
- Organize academic staffs and encourage for participate on different research for a workshops;
- Establish linkages with other national and international research institutions;
- Organize annual research review workshops
