Center for the Studies of Environment and the society (CSES), Art and Culture Study Unit
As a Young Center, Contributing to the national Endeavour, the center for the studies of Environment and the Society (CSES), Art and Culture study unit is established with the objective of conducting various studies through identifying problematic areas and delivering suggested solutions to community around Wollega. The unit has gone with various assessments and identifications and is engaged in reaching multidisciplinary activities by providing research works, panel discussions, awareness creation stages, documenting and promoting arts, Galleries, traditions and cultures of the society in order to introduce these elements across the Country and around the world. This has occurred through different publication, research, community provisions and through Audio visual inspiration. The Unit is also established with the Objective of Collecting Material, Artistic, historic and traditional cultures nearly Found, to be able to strengthen positive cultural Values of the Society. The Culture Center Concept is the Basic reason of Establishment as, demand and agent to the university and the society around Nekemte to serve the people through Contributions to the Society with different Community approaches and make research findings to be able to underline, problems facing the Society. It also paves a way to a community service Delivery solution to the problems of the community through the following goals.
- Sensitizing the Wollega University community about plan and activities of the center by organizing Seminars, panel discussions, workshops……etc.
- Organizing workshops for the local communities, Development Workers and Community leaders about sustainable use of natural resource and Conservation through utilization.

So, far various assessments have been done including Students award Ceremony. The Award Ceremony has been given to top students of the University, Elementary and high school students in Nekemte every year. The Award Ceremony encourages students at Wollega University to work hard on their educational carrier while staying at University.
