WU-HAPCO conducted TOT for WU Students


Wollega University HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Office (WU-HAPCO) delivered training of trainers (TOT) for WU students in collaboration with Organization for Social Services for AIDS (OSSA) for two days from Nov 5-6, 2011. As WU-HAPCO Office indicated, the office conducted TOT for the total of 100 students (40 male & 60 female) on the issue of: Abortion, Unsafe sex, Risky sexual behavior for HIV/AIDS, the effect of poverty in HIV/AIDS transmission. At the end of the training, the office conducted Voluntary counseling and testing for the total of 544 students (339 male students and 205 female Students) including other communities of the University.

RBM training conducted for Directorates and Deans of WU staff

There was two day training from Dec 10-11, 2011 of Result Based Management (RBM) training for Directorates and Deans of WU staff by WU Management and WU-HAPCO. The training was based on active learning approach (group activity, individual participation, presentation and other approaches) mainly focused on:
  • Overview of human rights based approach to programming.
  • Introduction to RBM planning and tools.
  • Causality analysis and result frameworks.
As mentioned by the trainee, the training was very interesting and is the first to build the capacity of the managers in WU and the training should be continued in the future especially on leadership and others. On closing speech, the Business resources and Development vice president of WU Ato Delessa Bulcha said, all of the management system of the university should practice result based management that is productive and can bring sustainable change on development.

WU has participated on National city week which was celebrated at Mekele Town. The third National city week which was taken place from November 20-25-2004E.C at capital city of Tigray National Regional State Mekele Town has invited almost all town in Ethiopia. About 122 Towns were participated on this anniversary and shared experience. Towns from all over the country brought their new innovations and more than 30,000 people including ministers & have higher officials visited the exhibition. Per the request of Nekemte city municipality to Wollega University to participate on the anniversary, a committee of three staffs of the University has gone to Mekele and disclosed activities of the University on the exhibition. The committee has prepared Banners, Brochures, Models, Documentary films, Photo slideshow and Thesis proposals beforehand to promote, Introduce and Build good image of the University.


WU Anti-HIV/AIDS Movement Organized historical walk In Nekemte Town

WU Aanti-HIV/AIDS Movement Organized historical walk in Nekemte Town that covered the distance from WU Main campus to Nekemte town square on Dec 03, 2011 that encompasses more than 10,000 populations from the students and surrounding community. The walk was attractive and interesting supported by different slogans in Amharic and English.
  • The five year growth and transformation plan would be real if and only if there would be healthy citizens.
  • Think before your failure.
  • To escape out from poverty, healthy educated citizen is crucial.
  • Rushing to sex is rushing to HIV/AIDS

 

WU Anti-HIV/AIDS movement conducted different activities that educate the WU community in entertaining fashion in all campuses these activities were:

  • Establishing the office, conducting questions and answers, conducting trainings, Drama show and other – at WU shambu campus
  • Organizing art night-at WU Main campus
  • Conducting questions and answers, conducting trainings, Entertainments, Dramsa show, distributing T-shirts printed with HIV/AIDS prevention slogans and others at WU Gimbi Campus.
Celebration of the 5th Anniversary of Wollega University
