West Wollega:
The Social Science faculty of WU is located in Gimbi Campus of WU. Gimbi is the capital of West Wollega. West Wollega endowed with natural resources is known for its organic coffee, and wealth of huge mineral resources including gold and platinum.
Horro Gudurru Wollega:
Horro Gudurru Wollega zone is one of the high potential agricultural areas. Food crops such as Teff, barley, maize, wheat, and cash crops such as noog, seasome, coffee and haricot beans are produced. It is the home land of the well known Horro breed of cattle, and sheep. Mineral resources such as lime stone are found in the region. It has rich water body including Fincaa, Amarti, Nashe, Anger, Garchi, and Fincha Hydro Electric power source, and Fincha sugar cane plantation, the irrigation scheme and Sugar factory located in the area are of great opportunity for University - Industry partnership in training programs.. Despite the huge natural resources in western Ethiopia, infrastructure is less developed and use of technology in production is limited with little contribution to the national economy and livelihood of the people. With establishment of WU, investment and development opportunities have been opened up, and thus contributed for the development of the human capital and use of the natural resources in a sustainable manner.
