Celebration of the 5th Anniversary of Wollega University

On behalf of Wollega community, we would like to send our sincere greetings and best wishes while informing WU alumni and friends about the forthcoming 5th anniversary of the University!

Wollega University, which began operation in February 2007, has gone through an extraordinary development, and has registered significant desired outcomes in teaching, research and community services during the course of these five years of growth and development in line with its very mission and vision. With solid foundation, great strength and distinctive features, Wollega University today has been recognized as one of the leading newly emerging institutions of higher learning in the country. We feel particularly proud that the university has managed to develop enrolment capacity of over 17,000 students in the undergraduate and graduate programmes, and produced over 4,000 talented experts and professionals, thus making important contributions to the country's trained human resource need and development endeavours.

The University runs its 58 academic programmes in the campuses, namely Gimbi Campus of Social Sciences, Shambu Campus of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the Main Campus at Nekemte. The three campuses have made remarkable achievements in disciplinary development, talent training, scientific research, social service and cultural transformation. The university's every step forward is the embodiment of the wisdom and efforts of its academic staff, support staff and students, and it is also the result of the generous support of the people from all circles of society.

The following functions are planned for the 5th anniversary of Wollega University during the last week of February: panel discussions, exhibitions, research review, curriculum review, sport festival, establishment of alumni association, fund-raising events and artistic performances. These are some of the main features of the commencement of the 5th anniversary.

The University community would like to cordially invite all those who have been waiting for such historical moments to come back home and join us in this celebration. We are proud of you and with our joint efforts the 5th anniversary will be a grand festival that marks a new beginning, for carrying forward our motto of making "Wollega University the icon of quality and relevance".
